I cannot believe Robbie Alomar got passed over for the Baseball Hall of Fame. I'm not sure what the baseball writers were thinking cause this is a load of shit. He's a 12-time All-Star, 10-Time Gold Glove winner, 2-time World Series Champion... He could hit for power and average and depending on who else is in the lineup he could hit anywhere from 1-3... He's one of the greatest defensive middle infielders to ever play the game and he was able to stay at a high level for a long time.
So what's the problem? He spit on an ump? Babe Ruth once punched an ump and Ty Cobb once shit-stomped a 1-armed fan. I don't think that stopped them (or even delayed them) from getting into Cooperstown. Now I don't think Alomar was at their level, but he was peerless at his position in his generation. Who was close? Craig Biggio? More hit but not nearly as good defensively. Jeff Kent? He was an MVP and Alomar never was but I still think he got that cause the writers didn't wanna give Bonds his fourth. Ryne Sandberg? OK, he's in the Hall but he wasn't as good as long. Carlos Baerga? No. Knoblauch? Bigger no.
I've also hear the argument that he's a Hall of Famer but he's not a first ballot Hall of Famer. Bullshit. Someone's either a Hall of Famer or they're not. Some people don't get in right away because of who else is eligible but aside from Larkin (who also should've got in) this wasn't a strong class, not like 2007 with Ripken and Gwynn or '99 with Ryan, Brett, and Yount.
Alomar was robbed and any baseball writer who didn't vot for him should lose their vote.
