Wow that was fast. It feels like there was just a UFC event less than a week ago and now we have another one… Oh right, cause that’s exactly what’s happening! Is it overkill? Maybe, but this is a pretty good card and it’s on free TV.

No title fights for this one, but we do get the 2nd best lightweight (or at least the UFC’s 2nd best lightweight) take on Pride’s former (and only) Lightweight Champion in the main even when Kenny Florian steps into the cage with Takanori Gomi. This is Gomi’s octagon debut while KenFlo is trying to get back into the title picture, but it maybe a while as long as BJ is still holding the belt. Let’s face it, a win for Gomi helps him a lot more with a title shot than a win for Florian cause KenFlo’s lost recently (and badly) to Penn so it may take a couple more wins or BJ permanently moving to welterweight which probably wouldn’t happen unless GSP permanently moved to middleweight and that won’t happen until Anderson Silva permanently moves to light heavyweight and that won’t happen until Lyoto Machida loses the title and the subsequent rematch… so as I said, it’s gonna take awhile. Gomi on the other hand is the former Pride Champion and while unknown to most casual fans on this side of the Pacific, that on his resume and a win over a recent contender puts him pretty high on the list for a shot of his own.

Also on the card (and on the poster, so one would assume this is the co-main event) is former IFL Heavyweight Champion and Ultimate Fighter Season 10 Champion Roy “Big Country” Nelson taking on “The Skyscraper” Stefan Struve. His nickname (especially in this city) doesn’t inspire much confidence but Roy Nelson is good. Boring, but good. He’ll have the weight and takedown advantage and Struve will have the Ju-Jitsu and (if you couldn’t guess by his nickname) height advantage.

Also on the card is Ultimate Fighter Season 9 winner Ross Pearson battling Dennis Siver in a lightweight bout and former middleweight contender Nate “The Rock” Quarry versus “El Conquistador” Jorge Rivera.

Not too shabby, maybe not pay-per-view quality but you get what you pay for. UFC Fight Night 21: Florian Vs. Gomi will be live this Wednesday March 31st at 5pm on Spike or not so live on Rogers Sportsnet at 7pm. And when you're done watching the fights and you wanna watch somemore, don't change the channel cause the premiere of The Ultimae Fighter Season 11 is next, but more on that tomorrow.
