Is it me or does Dana White lie to "Showdown" Joe a lot? Two weeks ago he told "Showdown" that UFC 115 will definitely be moved from Vancouver to Cincinnati, which almost happened but didn't and did spark utter panic throughout the city (well at least for MMA fans), and last week he told Joe that the main event at UFC 115 will definitely be Tito vs. Chuck. The card has been released and Tito vs. Chuck is definitely not the main event.
Main Card:
"The Iceman" Chuck Liddell vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin
Mirko "Cro Cop" vs. Pat Barry
Paulo Thiago vs. "The Hitman" Martin Kampmann
"Natural Born Killer" Carlos Condit vs. Rory "The Water Boy" MacDonald
Tyson Griffin vs. Evan Dunham
Prelim Bouts:
Mac Danzig vs. "Handsome" Matt Wiman
Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert "The Hurricane" Yvel
"Lightning" James Wilks vs. Peter Sobotta
"Golden Boy" Ricardo Funch vs. Claude Patrick
Mike "Quicksand" Pyle vs. Jesse "The Ox" Lennox
You can't blame "Showdown" for reporting what he's told, in fact you kind of feel like he's being used. Before UFC 115 was confirmed, City Hall and the Provincial Government were dragging their heels to get this deal done, then the report came out that they were moving to the 'Nati and a deal got done over the next couple days. In the case of the main event, it was heavily reported that Tito Ortiz came down with a bad case of the flu during the filming of this season's The Ultimate Fighter and that Rich Franklin came in to finish coaching. Because of that, it’s been speculated that he would also be taking Tito's spot in the usual coach vs. coach showdown. They didn't want to spoil the show but at some point they have to tell us who's gonna be on the card.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday) for members of the UFC Fight Club, Wednesday for UFC newsletter subscribers, and available Thursday for everyone else. Hope you saved some money... like a lot of money (it's gonna be expensive).
